Where our thio-compounds are used
The specific characteristics of sulphur molecules within the different thio-chemicals make them relevant for a variety of applications. To assist you, we have produced a list of the most frequent applications:
Cosmetics
Thio-chemicals, above all thioglycolates, other thio-salts, thio-acids or mercaptans are used in cosmetic products such as, for example, hair-perming products or depilation creams. They enable a change in hair structure and remove unwanted hair.

Microbiology
In the field of microbiology, thio-compounds are used as a component of special growth media to create anaerobic growth conditions for the cultivation of certain bacteria or fungi. They are, however, also used for cryo-preservation purposes.

Plastics
In the plastics industry, thio-compounds are used as additives or stabilizers to improve the thermal stability, the UV resistance or the mechanical characteristics of certain plastics.

Cleaning agents
Thio-chemicals can be very effective when it comes to dissolving certain types of dirt. They are therefore very much in demand as ingredients in car cleaning products (i.e. rim cleaners), degreasers or special cleaning agents for certain surfaces (e.g. circuit boards in the electronics industry).

Leather auxiliaries
In the leather industry, thio-chemicals are used as important auxiliaries to remove hair from animal hides, soften processed leather as well as improve its colour fastness and water absorption.

Electroplating
Thio-chemicals are used as complexing agents or additives in galvanic baths. They can affect the deposition of metal layers on surfaces and improve the quality of the galvanic coating.
