Sulphur atom meets carboxyl group:

Our thio-acids

Thio-acids are a group of organic compounds that contain a sulphur atom that is bonded to a carboxyl group (-COOH). The general chemical formula for thio-acids is R-COOH with the R standing for an organic residue.

Used in cosmetics

Thioglycolic acid, thiosalicylic acid and thiomalic acid are above all used in the cosmetics industry. While thioglycolic acid is utilised in depilation and hair-perming products, the other two substances are, among other things used as intermediates for the synthesis of pharmaceutical agents as well as in electroplating products and peeling processes.

More about their use in cosmetics

Used in chemical synthesis

In chemical synthesis, thio-acids are used as reagents in the organic synthesis process to insert the sulphur atom in the desired molecule. Thio-acids are generally more reactive than the original acids.
