Overview of all speciality chemicals produced by Spiess Chemicals:

Our range of thio-compounds

Whether it is thioglycolates, mercaptans, thio-acids, thio-salts or dimethyl sulfoxides (DMSO): All these products groups are chemical compounds that have one thing in common: they contain sulphur. Apart from that, they do, however, have different characteristics and fields of application.

Thioglycolates

The salts or esters of thioglycolic acids are frequently used in the cosmetics industry as wavy-hair products or for depilation purposes. Thioglycolates may however also be used as reducing agents in chemical synthesis.

About thioglycolates

Mercaptans (Thiols)

Mercaptans (also known as thiols) are organic compounds that are often used as odorants, stabilisers or starting materials for synthetic processes in the chemical industry. They all contain a functional thiol group (-SH).

About mercaptans (thiols)

Thio-acids

Organic thio-acids contain a carboxyl group (-COOH) as well as a thiol group (-SH). They are less stable than carboxylic acids and easier to break down. During chemical synthesis, thio-acids are mostly used as intermediates.

About thio-acids

Thio-salts

Thio-salts are the salts of different acids that contain a sulphur atom. They are, among others, derivates of thioglycolic acid and/or its salts and other salts used in sulphur chemistry.

About thio-salts

Dimethyl sulfoxides (DMSO)

Dimethyl sulfoxides are organic compounds with a high solubility for polar and non-polar compounds, which turns this product group into excellent solvents for a variety of substances.

Speciality chemicals

Speciality chemicals, in our context, are compounds with specific characteristics that are frequently used for special applications and that are therefore generally not produced or used in huge quantities.
